Mortimer Berkowitz III is President & Managing Director at HealthpointCapital. Mr. Berkowitz has 25 years of private equity investing experience and is a seasoned and successful investment professional. Prior to founding HealthpointCapital in 2002, he had spent more than 20 years in private equity and investment banking. He is Chairman of OrthoSpace Ltd. as well as Blue Belt Technologies, Inc. Mr. Berkowitz is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Alphatec Holdings, Inc., BioHorizons, Inc. and MicroDental, Inc. He has served as a former Director of Nexa Orthopedics, Inc. and Physician Support Systems, Inc. and is currently a member of the Leadership Council of the Harvard School of Public Health. MD&DI magazine has recognized Mr. Berkowitz as one of the 100 notable people in the medical device industry. He holds an MBA from Columbia University and a BA from Harvard University.

John Chopack, Jr.

Mr. Chopack has 13 years experience in private equity at HealthpointCapital, LLC with a focus on the orthopedic device industry. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors, Compensation Committee and Audit Committee of BioHorizons, Inc. and a member of the Board of Directors of Blue Belt Technologies, Inc. He was also a leading team member of the Nexa Orthopedics, Inc. investment. Prior to joining HealthpointCapital, Mr. Chopack was a medical device analyst on Wall Street covering the orthopedic sector. MD&DI magazine has recognized Mr. Chopack as one of their 40 under 40 MedTech Innovators. Mr. Chopack received a B.A. from Lafayette College and an M.B.A. from Fordham University.

Dr. Assaf Dekel

Dr. Dekel is the Founder and Medical Director at OrthoSpace and has been with the Company since its inception in 2009. Dr. Dekel is a practicing orthopedic surgeon with more than 13 years of experience in the medical device industry. Dr Dekel founded Neatstitch, a developer of unique laparoscopic suturing technology and has also played a leading role in various early stage companies. Dr. Dekel holds an M.D. from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem

Peter Fitzgerald, MD

Dr. Fitzgerald is an Interventional Cardiologist and has his PhD in Engineering. He presently serves at the Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Technology and Director of the Cardiovascular Core Analysis Laboratory (CCAL) at Stanford University Medical School, and is Professor in both the Departments of Medicine and Engineering at Stanford. He has led or participated in over 150 clinical trials, published over 450 manuscripts/chapters, and lectures worldwide.  He has trained over 150 post-docs in Engineering and Medicine in the past decade. In addition, he heads the Stanford/Asia MedTech innovation program. Mr. Fitzgerald has been principle/founder of eighteen medical device companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has transitioned twelve of these start-ups to large medical device companies. Dr. Fitzgerarld serves on several boards of directors, advised dozens of medical device startups as well as multinational healthcare companies in the design and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic devices in the cardiovascular arena. In 2001, Peter was on the founding team of LVP Capital, a venture firm that has raised three funds focused on medical device and biotechnology start-ups in San Francisco. In 2009, he co-founded Triventures.

Ariella Golomb, MD

Dr. Golomb presently serves as Managing Director at HealthpointCapital. She is a member of HealthpointCapital’s investment team, manages the firm’s Scientific Advisory Board and other clinical relationships and oversees the operations of the firm. Prior to joining HealthpointCapital, Dr. Golomb was a Project Leader for the Health Care Practice of the Boston Consulting Group, where she advised global life science companies on strategic management issues including product positioning, sales force restructuring and academic medical center alliances. While in business school, Dr. Golomb worked at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in the Women’s Health Marketing division. She is a member of the Executive Council of the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Golomb received a B.A. and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Arts and Sciences. She went on to receive an M.B.A. from the Wharton School with a concentration in Health Care Management and an M.D. from the School of Medicine.

David Helfet, MD

Dr. Helfet is an Orthopedic Trauma surgeon and the Director of Orthopedic Trauma Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York. He also serves as the Chair of HealthpointCapital’s Scientific Board of Advisors. Over the last 30 years, Dr. Helfet has provided life-saving care to countless patients, often public safety individuals as he is the designated Orthopedic Trauma specialist for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the New York State Police, and has grown the Orthopedic Trauma Service at HSS into a world-renowned program. While he focuses on orthopedic trauma, Dr. Helfet also specializes in hip and is part of the Hip Preservation Service at HSS. Along with his duties at HSS, Dr. Helfet is also a professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and the Director of the Orthopedic Trauma Service at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Furthermore, he has served on the boards of the major orthopedic/trauma societies, including as President of the National Orthopaedic Trauma Association, has published over 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to forty books on the topic. Dr. Helfet received his medical degree at the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa before completing his residency at Johns Hopkins University. He has held fellowships at University of Bern in Switzerland and University of California Los Angeles.

Scott Schaffner

Mr. Schaffner is presently the Vice President of Sports Medicine at Smith & Nephew, a global FTSE 100 medical technology business with 14,000 employees, a presence in more than 100 countries, and annual sales of more than $4.6 billion in 2014. He has more than 20 years experience in the medical device sector. Prior to Smith & Nephew, Mr. Schaffer has held leadership positions at ArthroCare, Zimmer, Abbott, Spinal Concepts and Medtronic. He holds a BS from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from Stanford University.

Michal Geva

Ms. Geva is a Co-founder of TriVentures and presently serves as Managing Partner. She has 20 years of professional experience in Israeli and American medical device companies. Since the founding of Triventures, Michal has co-led the funding of two venture funds with strategic and financial investors. She has also led nine investments in the fields of cardiovascular, orthopedic, surgery, women’s health and digital health. Michal’s investments have been from pre-seed stage all the way to late stage deals. Michal currently sits on the boards of a number of companies, including Apica and ApK (transitioned to Thoratec), MST (a robotic laparoscopic surgery platform), MediSafe (a patient engagement platform) and BioGaming (rehab gamification). Prior to Triventures, Michal held executive roles in regulatory & clinical affairs, and in business development at a number of startups including ByPass (collaborated with J&J), AST (acquired by Boston Scientific), and GI View (in the field of gastroenterology).

Pedram Salimpour, MD

Dr. Salimpour is President and Co-founder of Plymouth Health, a physician-owned company that owns and operates the 306-bed Alvarado Hospital in San Diego and serves as an adjunct Professor of Health & Human Services at the Center on Human Aging at San Diego State University (SDSU). He is the President and Co-founder of CareNex Health Services, a healthcare technology and client-services organization specializing in neonatal and perinatal disease management programs with presence in over one third of the neonatal intensive care units in the United States.  He also serves as President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association (District 6) and as a board member of the UCLA School of Public Health HSAA, the University of California, Riverside (UCR) and The Institute of Sexual Medicine in San Diego. Previously, Dr. Salimpour served as Co-founder and Executive Vice President of NexCare Collaborative, a not-for-profit organization that served the healthcare needs of more than 100,000 underserved children and families in Southern California. Dr. Salimpour received his Master of Public Health degree at the UCLA School of Public Health, and earned his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine, where he graduated as an Alpha Omega Alpha national research scholar. He was the first ever two-time recipient of the American College of Physicians’ Research Award, he completed his residency at L.A. County-USC Medical Center/Keck School of Medicine.
